Ethiopian Security Forces Open Fire on Students
April 26, 2014 (CNN iReport) — There has been widespread protest by Oromo students in universities in Ethiopia against unpopular ‘Addis Ababa-Finfinnee surrounding integrated master plan’. Oromo students in Haromaya, Jimma, Ambo and Wollega universities held protests.
Although officials in Oromia state and Addis Ababa city administration insist the plan only intends to develop Addis Ababa and its surrounding, Oromo students and the wider Oromo elites believe the plan is to displace farmers in the outskirts and suburban areas of the city, meet the growing demand for land, and weaken the Oromo identity. The Ethiopian constitution grants a special interest to the Oromia state regarding administrative, resource and other socio-economic matters in Addis Ababa, in its article 49 which never have been implemented. This has largely resulted in significant resistance within the ruling party, OPDO, in Oromia and a continues pressure to materialize the implementation.
The protest against the doomed to fail master plan is held in four universities sofar. Yesterday (26/04/2014) at Wollega University, the infamous and notorious Federal police opened fire at innocent Oromo students. Reports and eye witness indicate unknown number of students were hurt and some have fled to the bushes. The people of Nekemete town were prevented from joining the resistance. Even then some of the residents broke through line of federal police force and joined the protest.
At similar protest in Jimma university, the security forces picked more than 10 students and jailed them. Further 15 students in Ambo university were jailed.
The uproar against the plan is resonating across different segments of Oromo society. A singer by name Jafar Yusuf was jailed last week that is believed to be because he released a single condemning the plan. The diaspora is is voicing its concerns through the newly launched diaspora based Oromia Media Network
The security forces in Ethiopia are dominated by the Tigrayan minority who have been in power since the downfall of Derg communist regime in 1991. The Oromos are the most prosecuted in Ethiopia. More than 40000 Oromos are in jail, although the correct figure is hard to know.

Oromo people have been deprived of vast landholdings and access to life
Oromo people have been deprived of vast landholdings and access to life-sustaining recources, and they have suffered historical forces that have suppressed their political and cultural institutions. As a result, indiginous oromos have been cripped economically and socially, their cohesiveness as communities has been damaged or threatened and their integrity of their culture has been undermined. In all reign of Abyssinian rullers, the oromo populations are almost invariably on rung of the socioeconomic and cultural ladder.are on the margins of power!!!!!!!
BREAKING NEWS April 26, 2014: Oromo Students Nonviolent Movement at Wallaggaa University Against Eviction of Oromo Farmers from Finfinnee Surrounding and Expansion of Addis Ababa
(April 26, 2014) – Oromo students’ nonviolent protests are underway at Wallaggaa University against the plan (called the Addis Ababa Master Plan) to evict millions of Oromo farmers and dispossess them of their land in Oromian districts surrounding Finfinnee under the pretext of the “urban development of Addis Ababa.”
According to published data, under the current TPLF regime, Addis Ababa has expanded by ~400% since 1991 (from ~13,763.3-ha in 1991 to ~52,706.2-ha in 2014 – see data here); even though the Oromiyaa Region is a federally constituted state, it continues to be annexed by the Habesha government of Addis Ababa.
Political analysts have stated recently that the current Addis Ababa Master Plan will potentially divide the Oromiyaa Region into two by the proposed plan’s annexation of Central Oromiyaa by Addis Ababa, and the subsequent eviction of the Oromo farming communities in Central Oromiyaa under the pretext of “industrial zones.” There are at least 8 industrial zones all over Oromiyaa, such as the Malka Jebdu area under the Dire Dawa Industrial Zone, the Ambo Industrial Zone, the Chinese-owned Bishoftu Eastern Industrial Zone – which is slated to extend all the way to Asella in Arsi Zone of Oromiyaa in the coming few years.

The Guji and Lagatafo Oromo Killer Alamudi to Bring His Blood-Soaked Soccer to Minneapolis, Minnesota
By Observer, Gadaa.com | Ebla/April 24, 2014
Alamudi is the tycoon at the center of the 21st-century re-annexation of Oromiyaa by Abyssinian elites.
He was probably the first to snatch lands from Oromo farmers near Lagatafo, in the so-called CMC area, in the mid-1990′s. Since then and with the impending annexation of Lagatafo by the “Addis Ababa” Habesha government, Lagatafo is quickly becoming a de-Oromonized region within Oromia.
In addition, Alamudi – together with TPLF rulers and ex-Neftegna tycoons of the Ethiopian empire – steals a “staggering 4.5-ton of gold every year” from Shakiso ores in the Guji zone of Oromiyaa. The money from this very gold has been then used to buy bullets to kill the very Guji and Borana Oromo youths who are protesting against the gold theft (heist) by Alamudi, TPLF rulers and ex-Neftegna tycoons. While Alamudi and his Habesha “investors” are swimming in millions of stolen dollars, the rest of the Guji Oromo in Shakiso do not have enough food to support their families that they rely on food-aid from humanitarian organizations to fed and survive their children and themselves. In order to facilitate their gold heist, Alamudi and Co. have also been at the center of fueling the recent conflict between the Guji and Borana Oromos.

A new depth of horror: The civil war’s worst massacre ensures that the war will get still bloodier
April
24, 2014 (The Economist) — EVEN in a civil war that has been rife with
atrocities, the scale of the massacre of civilians in South Sudan’s oil
hub of Bentiu on April 15th-16th plumbed a new depth of hell. The rebel
White Army (pictured), so-called after the ash its fighters sometimes
smear on themselves, killed anyone they suspected of supporting the
government, including—it is reported—200 people in a single mosque and
others in churches and aid-agency compounds. Local radio broadcasts
helped to stir up ethnic hatred and to direct the violence at perceived
enemies of Riek Machar, the vice-president, whose sacking by President
Salva Kiir nearly a year ago led to the civil war that erupted in
December.
Members of Mr Machar’s Nuer tribe were
evidently encouraged to cheer on the violence. Toby Lanzer, a UN
official who visited Bentiu in the massacre’s aftermath, said he saw
“piles and piles” of bodies, almost all of whom appeared to be
civilians. The killings were, he said, “perhaps the most shocking set of
circumstances” in the four-month-old conflict. They were a
“game-changer”.
Yet, despite the ensuing outcry, outside mediators have few means of
changing the game for the better. The fighting has swilled viciously
back and forth over the handful of towns that make up the pitifully poor
country. With each new offensive, large numbers of civilians from the
two main ethnic groups, the Dinka, from which Mr Kiir hails, and Mr
Machar’s Nuer, have found themselves caught in enemy territory. Both
sides have committed atrocities.
Messrs Kiir and Machar have each recklessly sought to involve outside parties to gain the upper hand. Uganda has backed Mr Kiir’s government with a large force. The rump state of Sudan to the north has sold weapons to both sides; Ethiopia is courted by the rebels, who accuse Egypt, with whom Ethiopia has sour relations, of backing Mr Kiir.
The atrocities in Bentiu threaten to regionalise the civil war more. The attackers appear to have deliberately targeted traders from Darfur, the troubled western region of Sudan. This may have been an act of revenge, because the Justice and Equality Movement, a Darfuri rebel group that seeks to overthrow Sudan’s government in Khartoum, had previously helped attack Mr Machar’s forces.
Meanwhile, the UN has increasingly found itself in the line of fire. More than 50,000 civilians are sheltering in five of its bases. Some 10,000 UN peacekeepers are trying to protect them, but on April 20th they failed to do so when 58 people were killed by a mob of largely Dinka youths who attacked the UN base in Bor, a town that has changed hands four times since the fighting began. More than 1m of South Sudan’s 6m people have fled their homes. Tens of thousands have been killed. Hugely reliant on foreign aid, the country is on the brink of widespread famine.
Even so, large delegations representing the rebels and the government have been staying for months in plush hotels in neighbouring Ethiopia, supposedly negotiating for peace. They half-heartedly agreed in January to a ceasefire, but failed to uphold it on the ground. Foreign diplomats close to the talks see scant prospect of progress.
The roots of the conflict lie in a failure to build the basis of a functional state. When South Sudan got full independence from the north in 2011, its abundant aid money and oil revenue (virtually its sole domestic source of income) were used for two baleful purposes: to pay for an expanding army and to enrich the country’s new elite.
But when the oil income shrank, thanks to chronic instability and the pipeline’s periodic closure, elements of the army and the elite were set against each other as they sought to retain or expand their share of the wealth. South Sudan’s main international sponsors, such as the United States and the EU, have become less willing to pay off the warlords to keep the peace. Instead, the Americans are thinking of targeting the one thing that both sides have in common: wealth stashed abroad. Key people may face sanctions, such as travel bans and asset freezes. But a list of names has yet to be drawn up.
For once there are no glaring divisions in the UN Security Council over South Sudan. China, whose large investment in South Sudan’s oil is under threat, is in tune with the West. This rare consensus could enable the Security Council to impose an arms embargo on all sides. The International Criminal Court at The Hague could also get involved, though that would be opposed by several governments in the region, especially those of Sudan and Kenya, whose leaders have been indicted in separate cases. Meanwhile, there is little hope of a quick end to the horror. No side is winning. Hopes of building a new country from scratch are drowning in blood.

De-Oromonizing Finfine and Beyound: TPLF’s Evil Agenda THAT MUST BE STOPPED NOW
By HGoche | April 21, 2014
Over a week ago, while skimming through current news and articles, I read an article titled “Old World Order: How geopolitics fuels endless chaos and old-school conflicts in the 21st Century” on Time Magazine of March 31, 2014 by Robert D. Kaplan., which I thought explains the behaviours past and current Abyssinian regimes land grab in Oromia and the South.
Although, Kaplan’s article much focuses on the geographical struggle between the East-West struggle for control of Ukraine, and the consequent annexation of Crimea by Russia as the mere reality of the 19th century behaviour in the 21st century. According to Kaplan, it is not the international law that defines territory but rather the bonds of blood that go with one’s own territory is central to what defines us human. In other words, the European behaviours of 19th century geographical expansion into different parts of the world for economic and geo-politics of the place is well alive and kicking in different parts of today’s world. Apart from the East-west struggle for control of Ukarine, Kaplan, also demonstrates the fracturing of Middle Eastern states into ethnic and sectarian fiefs or the Sunnis and the Shiites for control more geography and resources, the disputes over territorial claim of the East China sea among the East Asian states as more examples that geo-politics and the control for resources is not negated by technology and globalization. Kaplan, further, argues that “whereas the West has come to think about international relations in terms of laws and multinational agreements, most of the rest of the world still thinks in terms of deserts, mountain ranges, all- weather ports and tracts of land and water. The world is back to the maps of elementary school as a starting point for an understanding of history, culture, religion and ethnicity- not to mention power struggles over trade routes and natural resources”.
The expansion of the Abyssinian Empire since the late 19th century by Menilik with the help of the Europeans and the resulting conquest of the states south of the empire, namely the Oromos, the Sidamas, and the Walaitas, have resulted in massive killings and displacement of the indigenous population and confiscating of their land and appropriating to the Abyssinian army and the new settlers from the North. Furthermore, garrison towns were established in the new colonies, where the invading Abyssinian army enforces the new laws of evicting the indigenous population from their ancestral land or in the case of many places, the new Abyssinian settlers were given the land with the whole population living on it, by making them the properties of the settlers. These policies of dispossessing the indigenous population of their land at will continued under successive Abyssinian regimes by disguising their crime using names such as cooperative farms, state farm, etc. Dispossessing societies of their own ancestral land is not only depriving them of their lively-hood and means of survivals but also depriving them of their culture, history, norms and way of life.
Although, this geographical genocide in the south by successive Abyssinian regimes continued unabated, it reached its climax under the current minority TPLF junta. Since 1991, the TPLF junta has been busy selling Oromia’s land to the highest bidder to his Tigrian cronies and his Arab backers in the name of development. TPLF is not only selling Oromia’s land at the highest speed but also destroying Oromia’s forests deliberately starting fires, and hence destroying the indigenous wildlife, flora and fauna that the Oromos cared for centuries for generations to come.
The recent fake debate by the TPLFities to incorporate towns and villages of Oromia under the Finfine jurisdiction in the name of development is the continuation of a century old Abyssinian expansion to stamp out Oromos footprint from their ancestral land.
One should ask why only towns and cities in Oromia are designated special administrative status under the TPLF so- called Federal system?
Since 1991, the TPLF juntas named two economically significant cities, Finfine and Dire-Dawa as special zones, just merely for the purpose of denying Oromos to have economic, social and political benefits that these two cities generate, rather the social, economic and political benefits generated from these cities goes to fatten the coffers of TPLF cronies and the companies they control.
The lousy argument used by TPLF to grant special status to Finfine and Dire- Dawa, and, thereby under TPLF control was that the two cities are multi-ethnic and cities with heavy industries. On the other hand, the 1994 TPLF constitution and the Oromia State constitution stipulate that the Oromia State shall receive “special” benefits from the two cities, which will be decided by the law. Both the law that define the special benefits the Oromia State should receive from both cities as well were not materialized for over 20 years. This testifies the official claim that OPDO is full of all yes men like trained dogs, and their only mission and purpose is to carry-out tasks given to them by their TPLF masters. It also demonstrates, it is the TPLF that controls every single affair of the Oromia State.
According to secret internal sources, after the next election, the following cities are on TPLF’s hit lists to bring them under TPLF control in the name of development and the industries in these cities. These cities are: Awasa, Jima, Shashemene, Adama cities are on the hit lists of TPLF. The question that needs to be asked is why assigning special status to only cities and towns in Oromia and the South? Why not cities such as Bahir Dar, Kombolcha, Mekele not under Federal control? Because these cities are also have many industries as those cities in Oromia and the South.
So, why is TPLF is pushing hard to expand Finfine to other towns and villages in Oromia under the guise of development?

A Critique of “Geopolitics and the New World Order” by Robert D. Kaplan (Time magazine)
Because these cities are also have many industries as those cities in Oromia and the South.
So, why is TPLF is pushing hard to expand Finfine to other towns and villages in Oromia under the guise of development?
- The first and most strategic objective of expanding Finfine is to split Oromia into two separate geographies, that is Eastern Oromia and Western Oromia, which will be much easier to govern.
- To de-Oromonize Finfine by settling more Abyssinians
- To appeal to the Amhara groups (inside and outside) that TPLF has not abandoned their project of assimilating the South under the Abyssinian empire.
- There is more resources that can be sold to TPLF cronies and the so-called investors.

Distinguished Oromo scholar, Surgeon Physician and Philanthropist, Dr. Gudata Hinika will be the Keynote speaker for the OSA Annual conference in August 2014
By Ibrahim Amae Elemo M.D, M.P.H |April 20, 2014
It is with great excitement that I announce to you and to all the Oromo Media that Dr. Gudata Hinika has been selected as the Keynote speaker for the OSA Annual conference. He is an inspiration to many Oromo and African born immigrants in the Diaspora. His achievement is stellar! His commitment to empower the Oromo people and other peoples of Ethiopia is commendable.
The Annual Conference of the Oromo Studies Association will be held on August 2-3, 2014 in Washington D. C Metro area. The Theme of the conference is ” Gada & Oromo Democracy: Celebrating 40 Years of Research and Oromo Renaissance”. The Deadline for submission of articles and panels is May 21, 2014.
Please, send articles and panel proposals to OSA President at ielemo@yahoo.com. Below is the full profile of this distinguished scholar, Surgeon Physician and Philanthropist. It is a great honor and privilege for me to introduce our keynote speaker.
Dr. Gudata S. Hinika, was born in rural Oromia, Ethiopia and was raised by his grandmother in the hinterlands of southern Oromia, in a village called Gode. As a child, he lived through the strife of starvation, drought and communist occupation. As a young physician, he had the distinction of serving as chief surgical resident at King/Drew University Hospital in Los Angeles. Thanks to his rich academic experience and robust surgical residency training, his career has since blossomed. Since 2004, he has served as the Chief of Trauma, General and Critical Care Surgery at California Hospital, the busiest private trauma center in Los Angeles. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Hinika has dedicated his life to alleviating adverse health conditions in underserved communities. His commitment extends far beyond hospital walls—locally and globally.
Dr. Hinika’s concerns focus on introducing sustainable solutions to communities in need, both in the United States and in his native Oromia, Ethiopia. Seeing similar alarming disparities in health, wealth and education, Dr. Hinika has been delivering sustainable solutions in rural Ethiopia and South Los Angeles. Dr. Hinika started his work in the rural village of Gode, Ethiopia in 1995 by funding college scholarships that enabled deserving high school students to pursue their college education, all expenses paid. This commitment evolved into the construction and development of elementary, middle, junior high schools and most recently, the first high school in the area. Gode High school has been cited by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education as a model of public-private collaboration.
In 2007, Dr. Hinika founded Ethiopia Health Aid, a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to providing access to care from rural villages, townships and cities in remote areas in Ethiopia. He currently leads the development of a Health Village composed of a hospital, medical school and satellite clinics the rural township of Arsi Negele, to provide basic hospital care and education to a population of 1.2 million that is currently bereft of resources. To bridge the continuum of healthcare access, Ethiopia Health Aid has also developed a unique Knowledge Exchange Program in collaboration with the prestigious Adama General Hospital and Medical College, a tertiary care facility midway between rural Ethiopia and the nation’s capital city. This Knowledge Exchange Program sponsors medical professionals at all levels (physicians, nurses, technicians and administrators) to mentor and learn from each other through actual site visits (medical missions) and virtual communications (telemedicine and webinars).
In the US, Dr. Hinika worked for many years in the healthcare-challenged community of South Los Angeles. In 2008, he established Crenshaw Medical Center, a multi-specialty health facility that provides access to primary and specialty care to the underserved. He has been recognized for his outstanding community service by the such national, state and community leaders as former US Representative Diane Watson, County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, City Councilman Bernard Parks. As head of Trauma, General and Critical Care Surgery at California Hospital Medical Center, Dr. Hinika has been instrumental in establishing the hospital as a vital force in trauma care. In 2010, Dr. Hinika received the Treasure of Los Angeles award for his leadership in trauma care.
In 2011, under his exemplary leadership, California Hospital received its third consecutive rating of “Zero Deficiencies,” the highest quality rating awarded to trauma centers by the American College of Surgeons. With this remarkable achievement, California Hospital’s trauma center is now one of a select few in the nation to hold such a distinction. Dr. Hinika received his medical degree from Loma Linda University. He completed his General Surgery residency at Martin Luther King Hospital. He is Board Certified in his specialty and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hinika is a recognized speaker and educator, working with both the American College of Surgeons in the US and the International College of Surgeons to promote advances in general and trauma surgery. He is also recognized for his work with Adama General Hospital and Medical College as well as the Ethiopian Medical Association.
The Charles R. Drew University Lifetime Achievement Awardee for 2011, Dr. Hinika is the recipient of the prestigious 2012 National Meritorious Award from the National Medical Association. He is also a recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Africans in America award from the American Medical and Education Services Foundation. In September 2012, the United Nations Association recognized Dr. Hinika’s work by presenting him with their highest honors, the Global Citizens Award. Dr. Hinika is the author of Healer’s Light: Achieving the Impossible.

TBOA UK successfully delivered its especial annual conference in London
The Union of Oromo Students in Europe (UOSE-UK Branch) or TBOA UK successfully delivered its especial annual conference in London on April 12, 2014
The theme of the conference was maximising awareness about the current alarming situation in Oromia and empowering the young generation to lead and finalize the century old struggle. The speakers include Jaal Galasa Dilbo, Jaal Taha, Obbo Denebo and Obbo Gamachu. The morning session started in Oromo custom, after elders blessing and afternoon session opening was with remembering Oromo heroes and heroines who sacrificed their precious life for freedom and equality.Obbo Gamachu enlightened the participants with Gada values focusing on how to unify Oromo from different walks of life based on this value. Obbo Denebo’s presentation focused on leadership structure of Gada system and challenged the participants if the current leaders of Oromo are living to the standard of this value.
Both Jaal Galasa and Jaal Taha made detailed analysis as well as moving and sensational speech on their respective topics. Both of them sincerely highlighted the very memorable month of remembering Oromo heroes and heroines of which many of them were their comrades. They underlined how honour it is to remember them and living to the value they sacrificed for. They also educated the participant about TBOA and other Oromo students’ contribution for Oromo struggle so far and the massive responsibility currently expected from the student union.
Jaal Taha focused on the current situation of TPLF, i.e. its structure, strength and weakness, the current situation of opposition parties in the country and what can we learn from events in the past. Particularly, he advised on what Oromo should do to ascertain our people’s right of self-determination by managing our minor differences and focusing on the bigger picture which is our common interest. He recommended working on values we have in common, minimize our differences and tolerate each other then discuss on issues to resolve it peacefully.
Jaal Galasa shared his life experience on Oromo struggle in the past, current and the way forward. The emphasis was what lessons learned so far and what can we benefit from this experience. He underlined that we should transform our resource, energy and all key capabilities we have into organizational and institutional power. He demanded all to understand that unless we strengthen our military and other institutional capacity that protects our fair share interest, there is no short cut to freedom. He advised, to unify our massive and potential power which requires discussion within us regardless of our minor differences.
In general the meeting was very constructive in which all participants fully engaged from beginning to the end. Finally participants made financial contribution to support our people’s struggle and concluded the meeting peacefully.
Safeguarding the Rights of Oromo Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Australian Oromo Community Association in Victoria Inc.
Press Release
April 16, 2014
SUBJECT: Safeguarding the Rights of Oromo Refugees and Asylum SeekersThe Australian Oromo Community in Victoria Australia (AOCAV) a non- profitable organisation stablished in 1984 to facilitate community development, preservation of Oromo culture, and promoting cross cultural awareness and harmony between the Australian-Oromo and mainstream Australians, and to serve as voice of the Oromo people, is concerned about the ongoing swoops targeting refugees and asylum seekers in various urban centres in Kenya.
Reports from different media indicate that over 6000 refugees and asylum seekers have been arrested in these crackdowns. According to AOCAV’s informant, more than two thousand asylum seekers and refugees have been detained in the Kasarani Stadium in the Capital, as a temporary police station, while some are being held at the Pangani, Kasarani and other police stations. More than 400 Oromos and other Ethiopian immigrants have been arrested in these crackdowns.
AOCAV applauds the Government of Kenya for hosting nearly 400,000 refugees from nine African countries, which is an enormous task. We also appreciate the continuing efforts to strengthen security for all persons living in Kenya. While we appreciate these efforts, our concern is that innocent Oromo refugees and asylum seekers have been arrested during the security operation. AOCAV does not support refugees and asylum seekers who engage in criminal activities but maintains that any such persons should be subjected to proper judicial procedures by the government with due respect to their vulnerability and human rights.
We understand that the government’s duty to maintain national security cannot be disputed, however, it is imperative for the State to guarantee the safety and protection of all registered refugees and asylum seekers residing in Kenya. According to the Refugees Act of 2006, the government of Kenya has an obligation to protect the rights of refugees and asylum seekers which includes the right to seek asylum. Kenya is party to various international and regional Conventions governing protection of refugees and asylum seekers and therefore has a duty to protect such persons.
AOCAV urges the government to uphold and safeguard the rights of Oromo refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya even as it continues its security operations. It is our stand that recent government’s actions should not negate the gains made by the state towards the protection of refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya. We call upon the leaders of the government of Kenya to guard against making remarks and actions which may jeopardize the protection of Oromo refugees and asylum seekers. AOCAV also requests the governments of the Western countries as well as international organizations to continue interfering in this matter so that the safety and security of the arrested Oromo refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya could be ensured.

Looking back into the Oromo history, the case of Gujii-Borana
By Rundaasaa Asheetee | April 12, 2014
When we look back into the Oromo history, we find several sorrowful chapters of clan conflicts and it’s tragic consequence that we feel today. To put this conflicts to sleep, the Oromians must understand their own history very well. For example, the Gadaa constitution stipulates that even a criminal will be treated with diginity and respect. That’s where Mogaasaa and Gudifacha becomes very important.
The occasional trouble that our Oromo clans suffer started because of many reasons. Some times when one is temptation to raid Herds of cattle from the other side and the other time when the other side raids settlements. These attitudes may have resulted in serious outbreaks that involve losses of property and life. In general though, in view of the vast territory that the Oromo settled, there had been very little trouble among the Oromo, especially compared to the Habashas conflicts that led to the fight of Gojamee against Gondare, the Tigrai against the Amharas.
From economic front, today more and more Habashas travel to uncommon distant lands and work as servants, as bar tenders, as beggars, as traders and remain there because of lack of resources in their respective regions. But the Oromos do not have to do that. No where in Oromia or elsewhere in north Ethiopia, an Oromo work as prostitute, a shoe polisher or as a daily laborers. That means, other ethnic groups pay great sacrifice to find heavy jobs or chores as maids and as private guards.
To the contrary, the Oromo people live together in large numbers and assist each other and they needed no financial help from the colonial force of Abyssinia. On the other note, the Oromo children suffer from lack of food and clothing and this life tragedy happens in remote Oromia regions such Borana and the Guji and each Oromo around the world must put him/herself and stand in that lonely spot of the planet and feel the sorry situation in which our people find themselves.
One way of doing just that is by attempting to heal the differences that is causing these serious challenges and the enduring consequences it has in the future. We hear problems only when major conflicts are propelled by the enemy of the Oromo people. In the past when the Abichu, Wabarri and the Galaan of Tuulama clans fought against each other, Minilik took advantage of the situation and employed Gobana Dachee as a leader of his colonizing forces. When my own great grand father Ibsaa Bashar led a huge battle aganist his own cousin, Oshoo Banta, our clan lost thousands of Gaasha land to the Ras Garadew family. This place was renamed “Yee dem Mareet or blood land” from it’s original name Qilinxoo and Dhakaa Filee.
The current conflict between Gujii and Borana Oromo clans and the reason that aggravated all the set backs that we feel every day are directly linked to our past. It is also what generates powerful emotions and anger that we feel today by lose of freedom. In other words, our past is responsible for the degeneration of our liberation struggle. Unless corrected, these feelings will continue to lead us to despondent lives, discordant purpose and can make us side with the enemy in order to crash one another.
One such an awful occurrence in our history was the actions that the OLF factions took against one another when one group approached the Tigre army and exposed the location of the other and led to so much blood shed. The conflict between IFLO and the OLF was also one such shameful conflict. Though it is shame to talk about it today, similar incidents have taken place when one rivalry Macca clan sought help from the Gojames. That was how the Gojames end up settling in Shaambu of Horro Guduru. Obviously, these minor conflicts were manipulated and propelled into large conflict by the enemy. If there were never such barriers among us, the enemy can never cause us the losses we suffering in Gujii and Borana today.
Knowing this and understanding all the disastrous implications that our existing differences can bring upon us, we must be completely honest and permit ourselves to explore our history, past and current and then come up with the solution that can alleviate our people’s economic and political pain and anguish, even when it seems possibilities are distant phenomena. If we don’t accept this and take new step into future, we can never be free to determine our fate by overcoming all the harmful attitudes we subconsciously harbor. We must accept the fact that no one can take away our ultimate opportunities to determine our fate except ”US” who so far created possibilities for the Habashas to rob us from our freedom and dignity.
The “events” which took place among our two Oromo clans, namely the Gujii and the Borana must have something to do with past. That means, we are re-experiencing the seed of our past, whether these events are recorded or not. But these inevitable limitations should not make us feel that bringing our past into picture and studying them is a waste of time. “Those who do not remember the past,” said George Santayana, “are compelled to live it.” (International Dictionary of Thoughts, Chicago: J. G. Ferguson Publishing Company, 1969, p. 543.)
The truth is, we wallow in ignorance of our past because we chose to see current only. For example, millions of Oromos who act as an Amhara, as an Arab or as Faranjii appreciate current and concluded that they are what they are today. Should they look back to history, they would have discovered that the Amharas converted them into the Amhara names, attitudes, religion and culture the same way the Arabs converted our Arab like black Oromo brothers and sisters.
Yes, even Oromummaa itself is not infallible because it may be interpreted diferently by many people. But the fact that our Oromo name and world view remain unchanged, it can serve us as record or our past. This is to say that even if the cause of our current conflicts shows certain realities, they should be linked to past no matter how much past seem inaccurate or incomplete.
A very wide range of approaches can be used to solve current problems even when the colonizing force from Tigrai is manipulating our past differences and use it against us. For example, our elders can be trained to interpret oromummaa in high-quality account. Positive events and circumstances can be understood and their positive impacts can be used as an evidence of national cohesion. This approach can give us knowledge about who we were and who we want to be as a nation. From this enormous value, we gain:
The Oromo history bears the same fruits, but is even more intensely valuable because of our kinship relationship to each other. We can get a sense of timeless truth in the depths of our bloodline and treasure it as Waaqayyo’s gift. We also need to look at our ancient civilization because plays the most significant role in the future of free Oromia. Oromummaa has highest standards of value of love, intelligence, justice, mercy and forgiveness. We can’t reject or ignore these standards just because we are angry at each other today. We must be able to deal with one another even when we are under varieties of bad circumstances created by our enemy and by our ignorance.
We can learn how the Gadaa leaders have dealt with advisories, we can learn from what they have achieved, from where they have failed, from what they have built, from their positive character and from their poetries etc.
Our forefathers qualities must characterize our attitudes of today and tomorrow. Our Oromummaa is significant because it recognizes and respect the holiness of life in general and it contains centrally guiding principles, and an overruling Providence and standards to which creative intelligence can rally overall love and concern toward life and nature in general. Yes, our dark deeds and tragic events that took place among us and in the world must teach us lessons as well.
It is true that people interpret history by substituting an economic interpretation for the constructive principle. For example, Karl Marx (1818–1883) and H. T. Buckle (1821–1862), interpreted history of Civilization differently. Arnold J. Toynbee (1889–1975) characterized Marxian communism as a chapter torn from the pages of Christianity, inverted, and misread.
Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881) attempted to explain history in terms of heroic individuals. G. F. W. Hegel (1770–1831) proposed a system of generalizations in which he said Judaism is a typified duty; Confucianism is typified order; Islam represented justice; Buddhism represents patience and Christianity represents love. Similarly, the Amhara Dabtaras and the Tigre tribe glorify all their killing acts as “march of God,” to build national state known as “Ethiopia”.
However, none of these explanations are satisfactory for our quest for freedom. All of them fall short of the basic explanations given in the Oromummaa principle that summarized belief in humanity and dignity. That alone makes the Oromo principle superior to all these cunningly devised fables.
For example, there exist 66 types of Bibles today but all of them have been subjected to criticism, reexamination, documentary research, evaluation, sifting, and study compared to what Oromummaa has to offer. This happened because Bible is not a principle but the views of men named Mark, Matthew, Luke, John, Leviticus etc who authored chapters known as Psalms, Acts, genesis and Proverbs etc.
We have heard enough when the so called educated or religious Oromos discredit Oromummaa as backwardness and the Gadaa system as tree worshiping. Others argued that there are no existing contemporary manuscript of Waaqeffannaa. Yet, these same questioners rejoice in the writings of Aristotle (384–322 B.C.) and extol his Politics and Ethics, despite the fact that most of the sources on which our translations of Aristotle depend are manuscripts written in the twelfth century A.D.—or even later. Fragments of these manuscripts came from the Greek-Byzantine tales, across North Africa with Islamic scholars, into Spain, where the Moors tolerated Jewish scholars and thus through the back doors of the Mediterranean world. It is this way how the “works” of Aristotle transmitted to modern times.
On the other hand, the Biblical manuscripts now in the British Museum have been subjected to extensive textual and “higher” criticism. But the Oromo world view is closer to the truth because it accepts and translate the universe as one entity.
Why then we run away from our past? Why then we are afraid to know! To understand! To appreciate and live the lives of our original self! I think it is only our true self what can save us faster than the knowledges we’ve tried to import from Arabia, Europe, America and Russia. We have tried all of them and none of them worked for us.

Statement from the National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy (aka Qeerroo Bilisummaa) on the Current Condition of the Oromo People Ethiopian Empire
April 2, 2014
The representatives of the National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy (aka Qeerroo Bilisummaa) from different zones of Oromia have come together and convened for two days, April 1 and 2, 2014 and, after a thorough discussion, have deliberated the following resolution on the current condition of the Oromo people, the condition of Revolt Against Subjugation (Fincila Diddaa Gabrummaa) spearheaded by Qeerroo Bilisummaa, and the political condition of the Ethiopian Empire.- Remnants of the old nafxanyaa (gun carrying settlers), who have committed uninterrupted heinous acts of genocide on the Oromo people for more than a century, are now doing everything they can to hinder the struggle of the Oromo people to regain their freedom. They are engaged on belittling and defaming the struggle, spreading false propaganda saying that the Oromo doesn’t have any land or country of their own in the region, opened a new printing press for this evil act of keeping the Oromo under their domination. We vehemently denounce their actions and ask Oromo nationalists to stay united and stand on the side of Revolt Against Subjugation lead by Qeerroo Bilisummaa.
- The dictatorial Woyane regime has intensified its campaign of expelling Oromo farmers and expanding the capital city, Finfinne (Addis Ababa), by annexing the near-by little towns under the Finfinne administration. The campaign is geared towards exploitation of Oromo land and natural resources by denying the Oromo, the ownership of their land, property, and resources. The only way to stop this evil act of old and neo-nafxanyas for the Oromo nationalists, especially the youth, is to intensify the struggle led by Qeerroo through Revolt Against Subjugation. We call upon all Oromo nationals and other friends living in Oromia and abroad to stand together and bring this unjust system to an end.
