July 31, 2013 (OPride) – Four star Oromo artists – Hachalu Hundesa, Jambo Jote, Abush Zeleke, and Nugusu Tamirat – are scheduled to embark on their first multi-state tour across North America, the sponsors said.
The artists are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. at the end of August to perform at a multiethnic concert organized by Minew Shewa Entertainment (MSE).
MSE will host an all-Ethiopian music and cultural show in August, intended to showcase the beauty and diversity of Ethiopia, said Shewa Banti Etana, the promotion agency’s manager. The star-studded concert, which features some 13 language groups from Ethiopia including Oromo, Amhara, Gurage and Tigrean artists, is dubbed “Dinknat Ethiopia” – roughly translated Amazing Ethiopia.
Etana is the official sponsor of the Oromo artists.
“I wanted to give underrated artists, including the Oromo stars, a chance to have a bigger platform to share their music and introduce them to their fans,” Etana told OPride by phone on July 17. “I understand we all speak different languages but on this particular day, I want people to come together speaking only one language: music.”
During their three month tour, Hachalu, Jambo, Abush, and Nugusu are expected to perform in Washington D.C., Toronto, Atlanta, Portland, and Minnesota. By bringing all four artists with a full band, Shewa hopes to entertain all music lovers, including the youth and older folks who may gravitate toward traditional and cultural tunes.
